In order to help Nigerian airlines, including Hajj carriers, lessen the impact of the rising global cost of aviation fuel in advance of the 2026 Hajj exercise, the Federal Government is examining a number of policy options, according to Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.
In order to ensure a smooth and effective airlift operation, the commission is actively involving pertinent stakeholders throughout the aviation industry, according to NAHCON spokesperson Fatima Sanda Yusuf.
Recall that stakeholders had expressed worries that airlines might experience operational problems during the Hajj due to the increase in Jet A1 fuel.
They added that although the current rate is more than N2,000, the contract they signed stipulated that the fellowship would cost N1,000 per litre.
However, the chairman pointed out that conversations about operational logistics—especially aviation fuel—remain a typical part of pre-Hajj coordination and are being managed within pre-existing frameworks.
He denied rumours that any of the contracted carriers were hesitant to take part in the Hajj airlift because of the high cost of fuel, calling them speculative and unrepresentative of the current state of cooperation between operators and the government.
Yusuf went on to say that the Federal Government’s action is intended to guarantee a fair result, shielding pilgrims from the cost of exorbitant airfares while simultaneously preventing airlines from operating at a loss.
He continued by saying that, despite ongoing interactions with regulators and other stakeholders, all contracted Hajj carriers had reiterated their dedication to efficiency, safety, and a smooth operation.
The NAHCON chairman expressed confidence that both outbound and return flights for the 2026 Hajj would go smoothly despite current economic pressures.
He restated the Commission’s hope that Nigerian pilgrims will have a seamless and prosperous Hajj experience in 2026 with continued government support and efficient coordination.
