Troops of the 17 Brigade have thwarted an attempted mob attack and prevented the burning of a police outpost in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Zagazola Makama reports that the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on April 5, 2026, when troops stationed at Combat Team 1 in Danali village responded to a distress call from a Nigerian Police outpost in the area.
The alert followed reports that a large, angry crowd had gathered at the station, attempting to lynch a suspected terrorist in custody and set the facility ablaze.
In order to prevent further escalation and restore order, troops were quickly sent to the location, where they interfered and brought the situation under control.
According to a security source with knowledge of the operation, the prompt action prevented major harm.
The mob was trying to set the police station on fire and had already become violent. The suspect and security officers were both protected by the military’ prompt response, which helped to stabilize the situation, according to the source.
Police reportedly used tear gas to disperse the throng during the operation.
“The crowd was dispersed with little effort, but regrettably one person was hurt. Since then, the sufferer has been transported to a hospital and is undergoing treatment, according to another source.
The region is now peaceful, according to the authorities.
The source continued, “Troops are still on the ground to ensure the situation remains under control and to reassure residents of their safety.”
