Iran withdraws from the FIFA World Cup in 2026.

Iran’s sports minister, Ahmad Donyamali, claims that Iran is unable to compete in the FIFA World Cup because the United States killed its supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The minister told state television on Wednesday, “We cannot participate in the World Cup under any circumstances, given that this corrupt regime [the US] has assassinated our leader.” The United States, Canada, and Mexico will co-host the World Cup, but American cities like Los Angeles and Seattle will host all of Iran’s group-stage matches. Since the start of the US and Israeli attack on Iran on February 28, 1,255 people have died and over 12,000 have been injured.
