Jigawa police apprehend suspected vandals, cattle rustlers, and recover stolen goods.

The Jigawa State Police Command has announced its continuation of efforts to safeguard residents and their possessions across the state, noting two recent detentions made in the Taura and Maigatari Local Government Areas.
According to the Command, on November 39th, 2025, around 12:30 hours, officers from the Taura Division apprehended one Adamu Yahaya, a 27-year-old male from Kwalam town in Taura local government, for the alleged destruction of public electricity infrastructure.
The police reported that he was caught in possession of “three (3) sacks filled with electric wire” which he supposedly took from government power installations.
The statement, signed by SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, Police Public Relations Officer for the Jigawa State Police Command, Dutse, indicated that initial investigations suggest he “had collaborated with his partners to interfere with government property, thereby disrupting the community’s electricity service.”
The retrieved items have been secured, and detectives are working to identify others who were involved. The police stated that the suspect will be arraigned in court once the investigation concludes.
In a separate operation earlier on the same day, around 10:30 hours, officers from the Maigatari Division detained a suspected cattle thief in Matoya village.
Police identified the suspect as “one Muhammad Abdullahi, a 21-year-old male from Maidaga village, Dungas District, Niger Republic.” He was reportedly stopped while moving eight cows believed to have been stolen.
The recovered livestock has been secured and remains in police custody until their legitimate owners come forward for identification. Police say the suspect is still being interrogated, and attempts are ongoing to capture his accomplice.
The Commissioner of Police commended the officers for their performance and expressed gratitude to the residents for their collaboration. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to combating crime and encouraged the public to continue providing prompt and valuable information to the police.
The statement guarantees citizens that the Jigawa State Police Command remains focused on preserving peace and security throughout the state.
