Kano government moves to calm fears over return of Achaba operators

The Kano State Government acknowledges the populace’s concerns regarding the growing presence of commercial motorcycle operators, commonly referred to as Achaba, across various regions of the state.
Ibrahim Waiya, the Commissioner for Information & Internal Affairs, issued a statement confirming that reliable information indicates that Achaba services have returned to numerous districts within Kano city.
The commissioner further noted that there are accounts of similar operations occurring in adjacent and border settlements, despite the fact that this activity “was banned in the state a long time ago.”
The government also mentioned receiving security information about unidentified persons utilizing motorcycles to function as commercial operators in specific parts of the main city area.
“Although the Government recognizes the public proposals for improved oversight, including surveillance at all access and departure points of the state, the Kano State Government wants to guarantee citizens that these ideas are currently being evaluated as part of a wider approach for security review and reaction.”
It stated that fresh measures are being implemented to safeguard people and assets throughout all 44 local government areas.
The government guaranteed residents that security organizations “have the situation under control” and have been supplied with all necessary assistance. It also declared its readiness to provide “any extra support needed” to enable them to perform their duties successfully.
Officials indicated that public input, such as suggestions for improved monitoring at all entrance and exit points, is undergoing review as part of an ongoing security evaluation.
The government expressed gratitude to the people of Kano for their watchfulness and collaboration, urging them to remain vigilant, report questionable activities, and continue supporting law enforcement bodies.
It asserted that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is absolutely dedicated to resolving security issues and will persist in working alongside local councils, traditional authorities, community leaders, security organizations, and citizen groups to bring back order and tranquility to the state.
He concluded: “We confirm that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is fully dedicated to tackling every challenge related to security and will maintain close cooperation with the leadership of local governments, traditional institutions, community figures, security agencies, and citizens’ associations to ensure comprehensive security, stability, and peace are re-established in Kano State.”
