Mrs. Serifat Olubukola Talabi, a senior official of the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) and the agency’s Director of Procurement, has died in a road accident just four days before her scheduled retirement and 60th birthday celebration.
The incident occurred along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, where Talabi was reportedly hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross the highway near the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Camp in the Ibafo area of Ogun State.
The late civil servant had already printed and sent out invitation cards for a combined Thanksgiving, Retirement, and 60th Birthday ceremony, which was scheduled for October 22, 2025, at the NERDC Conference Centre in Ikeja, Lagos.
Confirming the devastating news, LASRRA Public Relations Officer, Basirat Lawal, issued a statement describing Talabi’s death as a huge loss that left the entire agency in shock.
Lawal clarified the retirement date: “She was supposed to retire on October 13, when she clocked 60, but since our General Manager, Mrs Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola, was away, it was postponed to October 22.”
Mrs. Talabi joined LASRRA in 2018 and was promoted to Director in 2025. Her colleagues remembered her as a diligent, humble, and dedicated staff member who served faithfully until her final day. The agency has confirmed its plan to be present at her burial.
