For the 2025 edition of the annual National Essay Competition (NEC), the UBA Foundation has raised the cash award to N22.5 million for the winners. The winners’ educational grants to attend any African university of their choosing are covered by the monetary award. The overall winner will receive a N10 million university grant, a significant 33% increase from the N7.5 million given out last year, according to a breakdown of the financial rewards for the winners. Last year’s N5 million and N3.5 million educational grants will be increased to N7.5 million and N5 million for the runners-up, respectively. The essay topic, “Nigeria is characterized by diverse cultures, ethnicities, and religions,” is one that the students must explore and write about. How can young Nigerians use their differences to create a more cohesive country? Bola Atta, the managing director of the CEOUBA Foundation, highlighted the chances the competition provides for students and underlined that the foundation has kept funding the project. “Our commitment to supporting academic excellence and easing the financial burden of higher education for Nigerian students and their families is demonstrated by the purposeful and notable increase in the value of these educational grants. We have no doubt that this will encourage a culture of critical thinking and academic success even more,” she stated. Since young people are our continent’s future, she claims the organization is still steadfastly dedicated to providing them with meaningful possibilities.
