Institutions have been instructed by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to validate and upload student information on the Student Loan Application System (SLAS).
This is stated in a statement that NELFUND Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, provided to reporters in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to Oluwatuyi, SLAS has now been completely digitalized to expedite and simplify the application and institution processing of student loans.
She claims that as a result of this update, all approved institutions must now apply for access to SLAS in order to upload and validate student information linked to loan applications.
“This crucial step guarantees that authorized student loans are processed and disbursed on time.
Institutions that have not yet joined the system are asked to submit an access request as soon as possible to registration@nelf.gov.ng.
After being given access, “institutions will be able to verify submitted data, track the status of each application, and view a real time dashboard of their students’ loan applications,” she said.
Oluwatuyi urged all institutions to take immediate action in the interest of their students, as verification and data upload by the institutions were mandatory steps before final approval and disbursement can be completed.
She added that if a student’s loan portal status currently showed “Verified,” this indicated that the student application had successfully passed initial checks.
She, however, said that final approval and disbursement were subject to confirmation and upload of students data by the institution.
“Your status will be updated to “Disbursed” once this process is finished and your fees have been paid,” she said.
