Cases of a skin disease resembling Buruli ulcer have been reported in Adamawa State, Nigeria.
According to reports, approximately 23 patients, including six women and two children, are currently being treated at Yola Specialist Hospital.
Stephen Kadabiu Jones, the state’s epidemiologist, confirmed the situation to SaharaReporters on Thursday. He stated, “Yes, we brought them on Tuesday,” and described the situation as “deeply concerning.”
He added that the health ministry has deployed rapid response teams to control the spread and provide immediate medical care.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and ensuring that all affected individuals receive the necessary treatment,” he said.
This comes just a month after an outbreak of the same disease was reported in the Malabu District of the Fufore Local Government Area.
The epidemiologist noted that the new cases were found in the same community where the previous cases were first identified.
