The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s worsening economic hardship and security challenges, calling for sober reflection as the nation marks its 65th Independence anniversary.
In a statement released to commemorate the occasion, the ADC Chairman in Rivers State, Leader Sampson, urged Nigerians to reflect on the state of the nation and unite in efforts to rescue it from poor leadership.
While congratulating Nigerians, especially the people of Rivers State, Sampson paid tribute to the nation’s freedom fighters, acknowledging their sacrifices in freeing Nigeria from colonial rule and laying the foundation for its sovereignty.
He noted that this year’s celebration, coming amid widespread insecurity and economic hardship, is a reminder of the difficult journey the country’s founding fathers undertook to secure self-governance.
“This moment demands serious reflection on the unity and integrity of Nigeria, inspired by the spirit of our founding fathers who stood together regardless of tribe, language, or religion,” he stated.
Sampson added that the 65th anniversary should inspire collective action to lift the country out of its current socio-economic and political crises and put it on the path to renewal and progress.
The party also urged the Federal Government to fulfill its core responsibility of safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians, stressing that national development cannot take place without security and stability.
