As it looks at collaborations to increase vaccine access nationwide, the federal government has stepped up efforts to combat animal diseases that impact farmers and food production.
A statement on the development was posted on the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development’s official website.
The statement claims that on April 20, 2026, Ambuvets Konsult and MCI Santé Animale sent a team to the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, in Abuja.
The impact of livestock diseases including Peste des Petits Ruminants, Foot-and-Mouth Disease, and Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia, which have continued to harm production and farmer income, was the main emphasis of the discussion, according to the statement.
Maiha emphasized the significance of animal health for the advancement of the country, pointing out that disease control is still essential to continuing livestock industry changes.
He declared, “We are undertaking an ambitious transformation of the livestock sector, one in which disease prevention, control, and management are central pillars.”
He continued by saying that collaborations with private organizations will increase farmers’ access to vaccines and strengthen their ability to combat transboundary illnesses.
The government stated that MCI Santé Animale, a veterinary pharmaceutical company, and Ambuvets Konsult, a Nigerian animal health company, are collaborating to enhance vaccine production and distribution.
Shehu Shamsudeen, CEO of Ambuvets Konsult, stated that the collaboration intends to bridge gaps in vaccine availability by merging production and distribution networks.
It was also mentioned that Tadlaoui Omari Khalid, the CEO of MCI Santé Animale, emphasized the necessity of regional solutions to Africa’s cattle health issues.
“Finding the best answer for our continent is my goal. We must unite and come up with the best answers for ourselves,” he stated.
In order to support vaccine studies and guarantee efficacy under local conditions, the effort also include collaboration with the National Veterinary Research Institute, according to the release.
