The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, declared on Wednesday that the party was founded with the mission to reform politics and democracy in Nigeria.
Speaking on the ‘Prime Time’ program on Arise Television, Abdullahi claimed that the ADC’s formation was directly caused by the ruling government’s efforts to destabilize all opposition political parties in the country.
He contrasted the two main parties: the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was formed in 2014/2015 as a result of a “political strategy,” while the ADC came about as a “product of political necessity” due to the government’s aim to destabilize the opposition.
Abdullahi stressed that the ADC’s goals go beyond merely gaining political power; it is dedicated to “reset[ting] politics and democracy in Nigeria.”
He cited internal disputes within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the reason figures like Atiku Abubakar left to join the ADC, noting that the same situation applies to certain former Labour Party members who have also joined their ranks.
