The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in Northern Nigeria, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai.
Northern CAN described him as a preacher without boundaries whose famous One Million Man Crusades brought revival, healing, and transformation across northern Nigeria and the entire nation.
In a condolence statement signed by its Chairman, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, the association noted that Rev. Ukpai’s ministry touched lives across denominations, fostering unity and strengthening faith among Christians.
According to Hayab, “The late cleric visited the North several times for his well-attended One Million Man Crusades, which witnessed miracles, conversions, and widespread revival. The blessings from those crusades remain visible today. He was truly a preacher with no national or regional barriers.”
He recalled that during one of Ukpai’s crusades, the then Kaduna State Governor, Ahmed Makarfi, warmly received him—an indication of his broad acceptance and moral influence across Nigeria.
Hayab further stated that Rev. Ukpai was deeply respected for his unwavering faith and the divine works accomplished through his ministry, adding that his passing represents a great loss to the North and to Nigeria as a whole.
Northern CAN urged believers to find comfort in the fact that Rev. Ukpai fulfilled his calling and has gone to be with the Lord he served faithfully.
The association extended its condolences to the Ukpai family, the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, and the Christian community, praying for God’s comfort and for more evangelists to continue his legacy.
Hayab concluded that Rev. Uma Ukpai’s impact will continue to resonate in the history of evangelism in Nigeria.
