Ebiye Ogoli, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Bayelsa State publicity secretary, has denied rumors of party divisions.
Governor Douye Diri fired some political aides for attending a demonstration for Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, according to Naija News. In a statement issued by its factional spokesperson, Derri Wright, a faction of the party in the state denounced the dismissal of the political aides. In an interview with Arise News on Friday, Ogoli made it clear that Wright’s group was Wike loyalists rather than a branch of the Bayelsa PDP.
He said the Bayelsa PDP has no group and that Governor Diri, the party’s state leader, gives orders to all state executives and members.
His words: “Frankly, in Bayelsa State, I want to put it on record that PDP has only one State Executive Committee (SEC), and one single State Working Committee (SWC).
“To make the particular of the matter clear, we have 14 committee working members at the level of the state. We equally have 25 assistant working committee members. We have 8 local government chairmen and 17 of their members spread across the 8 local governments. So we have about 100 of them.
“Then at the level of the wards, we have about 105 wards and each of them is made up 17 members. So all of these people, about 2000 in total are safe and well, working together as a group.
There are no other factions among us. In Bayelsa State, Wike does not have any PDP factions. As is often the case with political leaders, he might have supporters.
In contrast, the PDP has a single political head, our governor, from whom all of our members follow and receive instructions at all levels, from the state to the ward.
I don’t know where the splinter group is coming from, as far as I can see. There is only one indivisible family in the PDP. Additionally, the excos is a single state excos.
