Police operatives in Ondo State successfully arrested a suspected kidnapper, Godspower Cletus, as he was attempting to withdraw a one million Naira ransom that he allegedly extorted from the husband of his victim. Investigations revealed that Cletus reportedly broke into the residence of Mrs. Farimoyo Endurance in Akure’s Odudu community, where he supposedly robbed her at gunpoint, taking her Android mobile phone and ATM card. During the invasion, the suspect allegedly forced the victim to call her husband and demand a ransom of five million Naira, threatening her life if the demand was not met. A police source confirmed that the victim’s husband subsequently transferred one million Naira into her Opay account due to concerns for her safety. The source added that after the suspect confirmed receiving the transaction alert, he quickly fled the scene, believing his operation was complete without interference. However, detectives from the state Anti-Kidnapping Squad used intelligence-led investigation to track him down and apprehended him at a Point-of-Sale (POS) kiosk while he was attempting to cash out the funds. Confirming the arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, stated that the suspect confessed to the crime during questioning. He noted that investigations are continuing to determine if the suspect has any connections to other kidnapping or robbery incidents across the state. Olayinka praised the prompt action of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, emphasizing that the arrest is evidence of the command’s enhanced operational effectiveness and its dedication to proactive crime prevention efforts.
