To guarantee a cleaner and healthier environment throughout the state, the Oyo State government has implemented a daily environmental sanitation monitoring and enforcement system.
During a press conference in the Ministry’s conference room to commemorate his first 100 days in office, Ademola Aderinto, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, revealed this.
According to Aderinto, the Ministry has switched from the customary monthly environmental cleaning exercise to a more proactive approach that motivates locals to be accountable for everyday cleanliness.
He claims that ongoing oversight and enforcement by environmental health officers are strengthening this strategy.

“Daily environmental sanitation is now enforced. Cleanliness needs to become a daily duty because our officers are on the field every day to check compliance,” he said.
The Commissioner revealed that in order to improve garbage evacuation, the Ministry purchased two brand-new compactor trucks with Governor Seyi Makinde’s backing and re-engaged 930 Environmental Vanguards, sweepers, and waste packers.
The Commissioner highlighted the ministry’s accomplishments, noting that the 930 environmental staff members had been organized to enhance enforcement and sanitation coverage and that the ministry had increased its effect through strategic workforce deployment and innovation.
In addition to receiving benefits from registration in the Oyo State Health Insurance Scheme, he implied that sweepers would be working twice a day to guarantee cleaner roads throughout the state.
In order to encourage community involvement in environmental governance and enable locals to report environmental infractions, the Ministry also introduced the Oyo Soro Soke (Oyo SSS) Environmental Whistleblower platform, which is available through mobile applications and WhatsApp.
The Commissioner also revealed that the Ministry has established public-private partnerships for the development of contemporary public restrooms and improved operational capacity by implementing a first-of-its-kind waste segregation system throughout government offices.
Aderinto thanked the Governor for giving him the chance to serve and promised that the trust placed in him would not be misplaced.
He also thanked Dr. Sunday Ojelabi, the Permanent Secretary, for his assistance and the members of the Executive Council for their excellent interministerial cooperation.
He highlighted additional accomplishments, including the Ministry’s increased media involvement, which includes frequent news conferences and public alerts about problems including heat waves, flooding, cholera, and Lassa virus.
“The Ministry has regulated charcoal production through a structured framework, commemorated World Earth Day with tree planting, intensified efforts to end open defecation, and strengthened interventions against diseases through inspections and environmental monitoring,” Aderinto continued, reassuring locals that the Ministry would maintain and expand upon these successes.
