Legislative businesses at the Bauchi State House of Assembly have been paralysed following a nationwide strike by the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN). The workers have down tools to demand the full implementation of financial autonomy for the state’s legislature. Mr. Adamu Yusuf, the Chairman of the association in the state, confirmed that their members joined the strike in compliance with the directives of the national leadership. The action aims to compel the Federal Government to implement the Financial Autonomy Act, which PASAN views as a critical step toward strengthening parliamentary independence and deepening democratic governance. Yusuf noted that the association has embarked on various strikes in the past to push for the enforcement of the law, but it is yet to be fully implemented. He explained that the industrial action is a collective stand by the state chapters to intensify pressure for the long-awaited reform, taken as a last resort after exhausting avenues for dialogue. However, Yusuf commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his commitment toward ensuring financial autonomy for the state legislature, calling it a commendable step that aligns with the broader national demand for legislative independence.
