The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, visited Kebbi State to support the government and families after 24 abducted students from GGCSS, Maga, were safely rescued.
The delegation, led by PDP National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, met Governor Nasir Idris and other state officials at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.
The party called for unified action across all communities, ignoring political, religious, or ethnic differences, to tackle insecurity in the state and the country.
Turaki emphasized that unity is crucial against kidnappings, stating that criminals do not consider a victim’s affiliation and see everyone as a target, meaning people should unite against the threat.
He also urged the National Assembly to re-examine the legal powers of governors as Chief Security Officers because current restrictions hamper their security management abilities.
The PDP credited Governor Idris’ quick action for the swift and safe rescue of all the students, who were reportedly unharmed. The state government confirmed the girls received medical checks and rejoined their families.
Deputy Governor Umar Abubakar Tafida described the visit as a display of support across parties, stressing that national interest must outweigh political disagreements. He said the visit proves that national interest is greater than individual or party concerns.
The PDP’s visit also included a call for better cooperation between communities and security agencies to stop future attacks and protect children’s education in Kebbi State.
