Despite the cluster’s substantial contribution to increasing oil and gas production—it has eight oil licenses, more than ten pipelines, and two delivery lines—an oil and gas host community in Rivers State has bemoaned the fact that the community has not sufficiently benefited from the resources in accordance with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). The National Chairman of the Ekpeye Oil and Gas Pipeline Host Families Association (EOG), Comrade Chidi Dogini, spoke at a sensitization program for the proper use of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), host community trust, and the contribution of pipeline surveillance in reducing insecurity in Ekpeye, Ahoada East LGA. He urged oil companies to follow the PIA’s provisions in their operations in the area.He claimed that the PIA sensitization campaign is appropriate since it seeks to dispel myths and guarantee that Ekpeye communities gain the most from the Act. He asked for more Ekpeye sons and daughters to get involved in the oil industry and be appointed to the NDDC board, and he praised the federal government for fostering an atmosphere that is favorable for oil exploration activities.
