Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, a prominent cleric in Plateau State, has threatened to take the Nigerian government to the International Criminal Court (ICC) regarding the alleged killing of Christians in Plateau and other northern regions of the nation.
Rev. Dachomo, who serves as the regional chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in the Barkin Ladi local government area, made this threat in a post on his social media platform.
He disclosed that he has already gathered a comprehensive record of Christians murdered by Islamic extremists and Fulani bandits, along with the churches destroyed since 2010, and intends to submit this information to the ICC and the United States government for intervention.
The courageous religious leader also accused both the Nigerian government and the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) of remaining silent and ignoring the mass murder of Christians in the Middle Belt, particularly in Plateau. He noted that the denials from the government and CAN have made the situation worse and encouraged the attackers.
To achieve his goal of taking the Nigerian government to the international court, Rev. Dachomo confirmed that concerned Nigerians and international funding agencies have started contributing money for the cause. These funds will also assist the families of various attack victims and support his ongoing humanitarian work.
The cleric specifically highlighted a recent mass burial of 17 victims from an attack in the Heipang district of Plateau State. He claimed this incident showed the signs of a Christian genocide, despite persistent efforts by the Nigerian government and the presidency to deny the targeted and systematic nature of the killings.
He added that his documents destined for the ICC will include accounts from victims, survivors, mass burial sites, and graves of those killed across the Middle Belt region.
The cleric declared, “The world must recognize that what we are stating is true. I will go to any extent to prove that this administration is not being truthful. We also plan to bring Nigeria before the International Criminal Court and file a lawsuit against the Miyetti Allah association for their part in these terrible acts.”
He continued, “Hundreds of lives were lost in assaults on Plateau villages that were never officially documented, and many people remain missing.”
“On March 7th, 2010, Dogo Nahawa, a community in Jos South local government area primarily populated by Christians, was attacked by Muslim-Hausa Fulani, resulting in the murder of over 500 people in a single night.”
He shared his personal experience: “Because of my public objections, my own village has been attacked multiple times, and over 50 people have been slaughtered, including members of my own family and friends. My best friend’s wife and their five children were burned to death.”
“Since the Federal Government claimed that no genocide occurred, that declaration motivated me to intensify my efforts. CAN is also denying the genocide, so I am determined to demonstrate that they are wrong.”
“Currently, I am traveling to document instances of Christian genocide because many affected villages were never officially reported, even though graves exist. I have been moving from one burial site to another.”
“In Jaruwa, worshippers were burned alive during a church service. No one survived because the terrorists surrounded the building, set it ablaze using gas lamps, and trapped everyone inside.”
“I intend to cover every location where Christians have been targeted. I am going to Wurekum, Doruwa, Mangu, and Bokkos—all the places where reports of Christian genocide have surfaced. I will compile all these incidents into a report and present it globally to prove that genocide is occurring in Nigeria,” he concluded.
