A severe warning has been issued by the Kano State Police Command against the public exhibition of guns during traditional events like Kidan Gangi.
Residents were warned by CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the commissioner of police, not to use traditional customs as a means of inciting violence or intimidating others.
He made particular reference to Kidan Gangi, a customary dance that has occasionally been invoked as an excuse for the public display of lethal weaponry.
Additionally, CP Bakori criticized the growing trend of young people using social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X (previously Twitter) to display firearms and engage in gang-related behavior.
According to him, such actions not only glorify violence but also incite criminal activity in susceptible youth.
He threatened to arrest and prosecute anyone seen inciting violence, hiding firearms, or brandishing weapons at home.
“Parents and guardians need to keep a close eye on their kids’ activities and report any questionable behavior to the authorities,” he continued.
By emphasizing that anyone caught assisting or abetting such acts would be looked into and prosecuted, the police also cautioned blacksmiths against creating weapons for such uses.
The DAILY POST previously reported that during a three-day operation from June 13 to June 15, the Kano State Police Command detained 51 individuals and seized illegal substances and hazardous weapons.
