Given that Governor Umar Namadi welcomed two notable members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the tsunami of political defections in Jigawa State seems to be picking up steam.
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, made this claim in a statement.
Together with their supporters and local party structures, the defectors, Alhaji Sani Haru Babura from Babura Local Government Area and Alhaji Mustapha Sule Tankarkar from Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area, formally joined the APC at Government House, Dutse.
Governor Namadi welcomed the newcomers and called their move a significant political statement, pointing out that their departure from the PDP highlights the state’s shifting political landscape.
These individuals have been members of the PDP for 28 years without considering switching parties. The governor attributed the change to rising trust in the APC’s leadership and direction, saying, “Today, they are here.”
He went on to emphasize the defectors’ political clout, characterizing them as people with credibility and significant grassroots influence who could influence local politics.
The APC is still open to everyone who is prepared to contribute to its mission, according to Governor Namadi, who emphasized that the growing number of new members indicates the party’s dominance in Jigawa State politics.
“The message is really obvious. In Jigawa State, the APC is the dominant party. You’ll be left out if you don’t come board the train,” he warned.
Alhaji Sani Haru Babura and Alhaji Mustapha Sule Tankarkar, speaking on behalf of the defectors, stated that Governor Namadi’s leadership style and what they called his dedication to justice and development influenced their choice to leave the PDP.
Additionally, they promised to rally support for the APC and strive for its victory in next elections.
