PoliticsLagos 2027: Ajose rejects a “fake” press release and denies supporting Hamzat

Prior to the 2027 election, Dr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, a contender for governor of Lagos State, has distanced himself from a widely reported news release claiming that he supported Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as the All Progressives Congress, or APC, consensus candidate.

Ajose denied the assertion in a formal disclaimer, characterizing the publishing as untrue, unapproved, and deceptive.

He emphasized that he did not release or authorize any statement endorsing Hamzat’s purported endorsement by the party’s GAC, or Governance Advisory Council.

Ajose said, “My attention has been drawn to the circulation of a false and unauthorized press release in the Nigerian media, purporting to convey my endorsement of Dr. Hamzat as our party’s candidate for governor of Lagos State and my support for the decisions of the state’s GAC, a process in which I played no part.”

He also insisted that neither he nor his campaign were the source of the document, characterizing it as an intentional attempt to distort his stance.

“This publication is fake, unapproved, and malicious.” It doesn’t represent my view, the stance of my campaign, or the stance of any person who is authorized to speak on my behalf,” he continued.Ajose said that the content was intended to skew public opinion and sway political narratives, and he urged everyone to ignore it, especially his fans and Lagos locals.

Additionally, the candidate issued a warning to the media outlets that disseminated the comment, requesting that the content be immediately retracted and removed within 12 hours.

He cautioned that noncompliance might result in legal repercussions, including as slander and electoral damage lawsuits.

“I will take all necessary legal steps to address this, as it is a defamatory and potentially criminal instrument intended to damage my reputation,” he dclared.
