Real Madrid’s first acquisition since Jose Mourinho was reappointed as manager was the signing of Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea on a six-year contract on Monday.
The British media stated that the agreement was worth up to 51.8 million pounds ($69.5 million), but the clubs did not reveal the financial parameters.Marc Cucurella will be associated with Real Madrid for the following six seasons, until June 30, 2032, according to a statement released by Real Madrid and Chelsea FC.

During his reelection campaign, club president Florentino Perez, who just extended his term by four more years, pledged to strengthen Real Madrid’s defensive options.
After reportedly paying up to 63 million pounds to join Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022, Cucurella went on to make 163 appearances for the west London team in all competitions.
The 27-year-old struggled for consistency and form during his difficult first season at Stamford Bridge.
Later, he became a regular under manager Enzo Maresca, frequently playing as an inverted full-back. In 2025, he won both the Conference League and the Club World Cup.
Since making his debut in 2021, he has also grown to be an important member of the Spanish national team, gaining 23 caps for Luis de la Fuente’s squad and winning the European Championship in 2024. He is a member of the nation’s 2026 World Cup team.
Cucurella publicly criticized Chelsea’s youthful hiring practices in March, arguing that the team needs to better balance experience and youth.
Chelsea did not qualify for Europe, finishing in 10th place at the end of the 2025–26 Premier League season.
