Representative Chief Whip drops out of the Gombe election

Prior to the 2027 general elections, Hon. Bello Usman Kumo, the Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, has abandoned his bid for governor and supported the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate in Gombe State.

Reports from Daily Trust The consensus candidate for the party is Dr. Jamil Isiyaka Gwamna.

Kumo stated in a press release on Thursday that the APC has been carefully preparing for the upcoming elections in order to secure electoral success.

He stated that as a party stakeholder, he took part in the legislative procedures that resulted in the Electoral Act 2025 (as amended), as well as internal party decisions about whether to use direct or consensus primaries to choose candidates.

Kumo, who indicated that he would like to run for governor, stated that he had waited for the party to decide on the primary election method but decided to support the consensus option once it was properly approved and validated.

“I am left with no better option than to toe the party line because the consensus option has been legitimately adopted and affirmed in accordance with the party’s position,” he said.

He described the Gombe State APC congress as legitimate and consistent with party principles, and he expressed support for the result, which produced a consensus candidate for governorship.

Additionally, Kumo reiterated his faith in the leadership of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, characterising both as devoted democrats whose leadership should be encouraged.

In order to ensure that all of our candidates win the upcoming elections, I hereby call on my hordes of supporters and loyalists throughout the state to uphold the party’s stance,” he declared.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the APC’s success in the general elections of 2027 and to maintaining party unity.
