Silas Agara, a former director general of the National Directorate of Employment and former deputy governor of Nasarawa State, has officially declared his intention to run for the Nasarawa North senatorial seat in 2027.
Agara made the announcement on Wednesday while visiting the Nasarawa State APC secretariat in Lafia. There, he met with the state leadership of the party to formally present his aspirations and request support.
Agara said he resigned from his federal position in order to respond to the call of his people, characterising the relocation as a “Christian missionary journey” intended to support the development of the state, especially his Nasarawa North Senatorial District.
After taking office in June/July 2024, he had been NDE DG for roughly a year and a half of his four-year term.
He told party officials, “I’m doing this to honour the call of our people, to add value to the politics of the state, and to support the aspirations of our people.” “I, Silas Agara, am not in competition with anyone for a stage. The stage is big enough for each of us to demonstrate our value.
In order to guarantee that the party stays in power in 2027, the former deputy governor emphasised the importance of cooperation and teamwork.
Agara, who is anticipated to run against Governor Sule in the APC primary, praised the governor for leading the state and the party and prayed for him to remain strong until the end of his term.
With Agara’s announcement, Governor Sule, who has also bought nomination and expression of interest forms for the same Nasarawa North Senate seat, may face off in the APC primary.
Aliyu Bello, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Nasarawa State, promised former Deputy Governor Silas Agara that he would have an equal opportunity to run for the party’s nomination for the Nasarawa North Senatorial seat.
Agara was praised by the chairman for respecting the party hierarchy by obtaining authorisation prior to starting a ward-to-ward campaign tour in the Senatorial district.
