The House of Representatives has voted to investigate the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) regarding the alleged mismanagement of $25 million in grants received from FIFA and CAF spanning the decade from 2015 to 2025.
The motion, adopted on Tuesday, was brought by Representatives Adedayo Adesola and Felix Nwaeke. Adesola argued that despite receiving substantial funds for development, the NFF’s failure to invest them correctly has led to a decline in Nigerian football performance.
He highlighted previous issues, including a 2016 FIFA query over \$802,000 that was unaccounted for from a \$1.1 million grant, and past probes of NFF officials by the EFCC and ICPC. Adesola also specifically claimed that \$1.2 million allocated for the Birnin Kebbi Stadium was misused, resulting in a substandard facility.
The House, led by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, unanimously agreed to form a special committee to audit the NFF’s finances from 2015 onward and directed NFF leadership to present all records of grants and expenditures to the committee.
