Members of the House of Representatives Dennis Agbo and Chidi Obetta defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday, continuing the wave of defection of elected officers from the Labour Party (LP) in Enugu State.
According to Naija News, Chijioke Edeoga, the Labour Party’s candidate for governor of Enugu in 2023, switched to the PDP.
Chijioke explained his defection by pointing to the party’s national political instability. Prince Emeka Mamah, the former coordinator of Peter Obi’s state-wide presidential campaign team, switched to the PDP last Wednesday.
Mamah and Titus Odoh, the former state spokesperson for the Labour Party, both defected.
Obetta, who represents the Nsukka/Igbpeze South federal constituency, declared his defection on the Green Chambers floor during Tuesday’s session.
Additionally, during Tuesday’s plenary, Agbo, who represents the Igbo-Eze North/Udenu federal district, declared his defection.
The two lawmakers explained their reasons for defecting amid the party’s national leadership struggle.
Recall that Enugu State Chairman, Martins Chukwunweike, while receiving Mamah and Odoh, disclosed that the party was expecting defection of four LP’s Reps members into the party.
“We are expecting as many bigwigs as still outside, but by next tomorrow, we are going to take in not less than four from the National Assembly,” Chukwunweike said.
