The Rivers State Police Command has denied reports of a herdsmen invasion in the state, labeling a viral social media video causing public panic as completely false.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, issued a statement on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, clarifying that the claims were untrue, misleading, and intended to incite fear. She stated, “these claims and reports are entirely false, misleading, and designed to incite panic among the public.”
Iringe-Koko cautioned residents against sharing unverified content that could negatively portray Rivers State, emphasizing that no herdsmen attacks have occurred. She called the “fabricated narrative” a deliberate attempt to undermine the peace and stability in the state and urged the public to disregard the misinformation.
The police assured residents that robust security measures, including patrol teams, surveillance units, and tactical squads, are in place to safeguard lives and property and maintain peace. The public was advised to remain calm, be vigilant, and verify information through official channels.
