When the football team is selected on January 7, Rivers State’s trials for the second Niger Delta Games will come to an end. Athletes competed for spots in handball and wrestling yesterday, continuing the chess, table tennis, tennis, and scrabble trials that started on Monday, February 2. Volleyball and taekwondo trials will resume today, followed by swimming and powerlifting tomorrow, and basketball, boxing, and weightlifting on Friday.Dunamis-Icon organizes the Niger Delta Games for the nine states that comprise the region and are members of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The state’s athletes are ready for the next Games, according to Rivers State Director of Sports Mrs. Ibia Inyengiyikabo. She spoke following the Port Harcourt sports trials and was thrilled by the competitors’ dedication, vigor, and desire to represent the state. “We are optimistic about winning medals because we have seen athletes who can do even better in the future with consistent training,” she stated.
