Ahead of the general elections in 2027, Nigeria’s electoral process is uncertain since the Senate has once again failed to make a decision on the report of the Electoral Act, 2022 (Repeal and Enactment) Bill, 2026. There is increasing pressure on the upper house to approve the law, which would give the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) a clear legal framework to follow as the polls approach. After a more than four-hour closed-door session on Tuesday, the Senate adjourned plenary to Wednesday without revealing the results of its discussions.
