Shehu Gabam, the former National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), is no longer a member of the party and is still expelled.
Additionally, it verified that Dr. Sadiq Gombe is still the current national chairman.
Rufus Aiyenigba, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, detailed this stance in a statement issued in Abuja.
The party claims that misunderstanding over recent Court of Appeal decisions related to the August 8, 2025, Ekiti State governorship primary necessitated the clarification.
The SDP warned that misleading material could be taken as fact if it is not contested, accusing Gabam of misrepresenting the court’s rulings in an effort to deceive the public and restore political significance.
The party further stated that the court decisions under discussion had nothing to do with the party’s leadership and exclusively dealt with disagreements from the governorship elections in the states of Ekiti and Osun.
Regarding Gabam’s status, the SDP stated that he was expelled in October 2025 after being suspended for alleged financial impropriety in June 2025.
The party stated that on March 9, 2026, during a meeting that the electoral body attended, its National Executive Committee affirmed his expulsion.
According to the party, Gabam is also being prosecuted for allegedly misusing party finances.
