Senator Shehu Sani, a former federal lawmaker, has stated that the recent opposition alliance and criticisms of the administration led by President Bola Tinubu are not based on a true public interest.
This comes as he criticized the opposition leaders’ continuous attempts to establish a coalition against Tinubu before 2027, including those of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and others.
Instead, Sani asserted that their motivations were personal annoyance, power marginalization, and dashed political aspirations.
The ex-lawmaker stated this on Wednesday while fielding questions on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.
He noted that most opposition leaders today are “simply disgruntled” politicians who were once part of the same political establishment they now criticise.
“When you have a group of disgruntled elements who are frustrated and come together, it’s not about the country or the people, it is simply about being excluded from the system,” he stated.
Sani disputed assertions that the opposition and the ruling party are ideologically distinct, stating that they are all members of the same privileged class.
They are all members of the same bourgeois political class, therefore it is not that they are now Marxists or trade unionists facing a capitalist system.
“Many of them have been in power since 1999, but they take advantage of every chance to weaponize our problems and portray themselves as a better alternative.”
