Former lawmaker, who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani has stated why former president Goodluck Jonathan should not contest the forthcoming 2027 presidential election.
Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics,” Sani claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, which Jonathan used to win the 2011 election, is no longer unified.
Sani suggested that the former president abandon the plan to run for president in 2027.
The former federal lawmaker emphasized that Jonathan’s decision to run for office is his own, pointing out that his name always appears during elections.
However, I tell him not to do that. The explanation is straightforward: the PDP he was familiar with is no longer the PDP.
In the South-West, the PDP is supporting the president. There are some party members in the coalition. Therefore, he shouldn’t waste his time because it’s the party he used to know,” he said.
Recall that Jonathan, who served as former President Umaru Yar’adua’s vice president for three years prior to his passing, was elected on the PDP platform and assumed the presidency on May 6, 2010, serving until May 29, 2015.
The late Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, or APC, defeated the former Nigerian leader when he ran again in 2015.
