Former lawmaker Senator Shehu Sani has commented on the recent United States military operations in North-West Nigeria, arguing that foreign intervention cannot provide a lasting solution to the country’s security issues. Speaking on Friday via his X account, Sani responded to a post by U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) that described the strikes as a collaborative effort with Nigerian officials. He noted that if the operations were indeed a joint venture, they were a justifiable response to the “cancerous” threat posed by regional terrorist groups who thrive on violence. Additionally, Sani refuted the claim that these extremists exclusively target one religious group, labeling such narratives as deceptive. He concluded by emphasizing that while foreign powers may provide temporary or tactical assistance, the ultimate responsibility for establishing permanent peace and security remains with Nigeria itself.
