Bello Turji, the infamous bandit leader, has been urged by the Sokoto State Government to show a sincere desire for peace by freeing all of the abducted people and stopping attacks on rural areas.
Colonel Ahmed Usman (rtd), Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s security adviser, made the call in response to a widely shared audio recording in which Turji purportedly indicated desire in a conversation and urged other bandit leaders to embrace peace.
Speaking in Sokoto, Usman stated that although the government applauded any sign of peace, such assertions needed to be supported by concrete measures.
“Turji must first unconditionally release all abducted people and put an end to the violence if he genuinely wants peace,” Usman said.
He underlined that the state administration continues to place a high priority on rural community safety and that meaningful conversation is impossible if people are living in fear or captivity.
He stated that while the government is still willing to assist sincere peace initiatives, criminal activity will not be tolerated.
Usman also urged religious leaders, civil society organizations, and traditional authorities to work together to promote stability and enduring peace in the area.
