SPORTNPFL explains claims that Katsina United supporters slashed a player’s throat.

Reports that Abraham Nana, a player for Barau FC, had his throat cut during Saturday’s Matchday 12 match against Katsina United at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium in Katsina have been refuted by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). Following numerous reports of a violent attack that went viral online, the NPFL stated in a statement posted on Sunday that it was forced to provide an accurate description of the incident. The league authority claims that the event was not as serious as first stated. It clarified that the player was not physically attacked with a weapon, but rather was injured after being struck by an object thrown from the stands. Play was briefly halted before the game restarted after the player, according to the NPFL, received emergency medical attention on the field.According to the statement, “reports of a violent attack, including claims that Abraham Nana, a player for Barau FC, had his throat slit, are completely false.” The NPFL added that during the event, officials from both clubs kept in regular communication with its situation room, which actively monitors all league games in real-time through match commissioners, and received first-hand reports. The statement went on, “We monitor and manage affairs through this platform to ensure matches proceed without incident.” After examining reports from the referee and Match Commissioner, who both noted security shortcomings and fan misconduct during the game, the league management verified that Katsina United had previously been subject to the proper punishments. The statement concluded, “The NPFL will continue to uphold the rules to ensure fair competition and an exciting league experience in a safe environment.”
