According to Liverpool star Jamie Carragher, the two most outstanding teams in the UEFA Champions League thus far this season are Arsenal and Bayern Munich. Additionally, he selected the North London Premier League squad as one of the four or five contenders to win the Champions League this year. After Arsenal defeated Atletico Madrid 4-0 on Tuesday night, Carragher made this statement in response to a question from CBS Sports host Kate Scott regarding the Gunners’ chances of winning the Champions League.”When you look at their performances domestically and what they are doing in the Champions League, I think Arsenal and Bayern [Munich] are the two most impressive teams I have seen right now,” the Englishman stated. As I’ve stated on this podcast, I’ve never thought Arsenal is a Champions League team. Since they have never won it before, I realize it may seem apparent, but I’ve always felt that there is something about them that doesn’t quite fit; they’ve never really come close.The greatest Premier League club I have ever faced was Thierry’s [Arsenal], yet even they fell short of winning the Champions League. That team did not advance to the Champions League final. “I can tell how good this squad is on defense when I look at them now. My Liverpool club, which won the Champions League, had a good defense but lacked a powerful offensive line. In my opinion, Arsenal is among the four or five teams that have a chance to win this tournament.
