Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) at Kwara State University, Malete, on Thursday joined their colleagues nationwide in a peaceful protest to demand improved welfare.
During the protest, the branch Chairman, Comrade Abdulsalam Jimoh Kannike, stated that the action was in line with directives from the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of SSANU and NASU.
Comrade Kannike emphasized that the patience of workers should not be mistaken for weakness.
He highlighted the union’s main demands, including the implementation of the 2009 FGN Agreement, payment of wage and allowance arrears, and the cessation of non-teaching roles being taken over by academic staff.
Comrade Kannike also commended KWASU management for its peaceful approach, stressing that the protest was not against the university but part of a nationwide effort for fairness and equity.
The demonstration concluded peacefully, with members singing solidarity songs and reaffirming their commitment to the fight for workers’ rights.
