Law students who graduated from Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu, between two and four years ago are distressed because the University has not yet approved their names for Law School, leaving over five hundred of them stranded at home. The students, some of whom feel they have spent up to ten years in the University system without progressing, described the situation as frustrating and unfair, alleging that previous appeals were ignored in favor of more recent graduating sets. They are appealing to Governor Alex Otti and the University management for an urgent investigation to facilitate their progress to Law School.
The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Chijioke Collins, confirmed the crisis, acknowledging a backlog of around 700 students yet to proceed to Law School, which he inherited from his predecessor. Professor Collins stated that he is making every effort to clear this backlog and appealed to the agitated students to remain calm. He explained that the latest set compiled is scheduled to go in February 2026, and his office is appealing to the state apparatus to help secure a supplementary set for April 2026 to accommodate those currently left out.
