Super Eagles captain Ndidi explains why he emulated Kanu’s famous celebration

After scoring Nigeria’s second goal against Tunisia in the 2025 AFCON match on Saturday night, Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi revealed the inspiration for his homage to Nigerian football legend Nwankwo Kanu.Ndidi’s festivities were reminiscent of Kanu’s famous dance from the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, as Nigeria celebrated their exciting semifinal victory over Brazil. “I was reminded of my dad, who always speaks highly of Kanu,” Ndidi said in his post-match interview after the Super Eagles defeated Tunisia 3-2.”I will do that for him,” I thought to myself after watching the video. The Besiktas midfielder remarked, “It was really special to score my first goal in over ten years, and securing the win is even more important.”Ndidi will now look to guide Eric Chelle’s team to another triumph when they take on Uganda on Tuesday.
