The Court of Arbitration for Sport, CAS, has dismissed an appeal by the Guinean Football Federation, FEGUIFOOT, to invalidate Tanzania’s qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The argument focused on an anomaly in the shirt number from a qualifier that Tanzania won 1-0 on November 19, 2024. Guinea claimed the game should be forfeited 3-0 in their favor because Tanzania fielded a man with the incorrect jersey number, giving them an unfair tactical advantage. However, CAS determined that the episode was an administrative blunder that had no bearing on sports. The ruling upheld CAF’s previous judgment to deny Guinea’s bid to take Tanzania’s berth at AFCON 2025. Tanzania is placed in Group C alongside the Super Eagles of Nigeria, the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia, and the Cranes of Uganda, its regional rivals. On Tuesday, December 23, the Taifa Stars will play their first game in Fez against Nigeria.
