Dr. Sa’ad Umar Idris, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Taraba State’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has urged security organisations and other interested parties to assist the Commission’s ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise through voter education and public awareness campaigns.
In an effort to improve cooperation ahead of the 2027 general elections, Dr. Idris made the appeal during a two-day advocacy and courtesy visit to security agencies, paramilitary groups, and important institutions throughout the state.
Phase III of the ongoing CVR exercise, which started on May 11 and is expected to conclude on July 10, 2026, was formally announced to stakeholders during the visits, according to the REC.
He emphasised that the process would allow eligible citizens to fully participate in future elections and urged the agencies to use their various platforms to educate the public about the significance of voter registration and the collection of Permanent Voter Cards, or PVCs.
Speaking at the engagements, the REC highlighted the strategic role of security agencies as members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), pointing out that they continue to be essential to security coordination and election preparation.
In addition to emphasising the corps members’ contribution to election duties as a significant part of INEC’s ad hoc workforce, he sought greater cooperation at the NOA and NYSC offices in the areas of voter education, public enlightenment, and civic engagement.
The State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Controller of the Federal Fire Service, the Brigade Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army in Jalingo, and the Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service were all visited by the REC on the second day.
The visits, according to INEC, highlight the Commission’s dedication to strategic leadership, efficient election management, and stakeholder engagement as the 2027 general election preparations progressively gain traction.
