The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported that 264 transmission towers were vandalized during 2024 and the first half of 2025.
While addressing a Workshop for Energy correspondents organised by the TCN, its General Manager of Transmission Services, Engr. Ali Sharifai said this has led to a serious disruption in providing adequate electricity to Nigerians.
According to Sharifai, the lines recorded 86 vandalized towers in 2024 and 178 affected towers in the first half of 2025.
He noted that vandalism of transmission infrastructure reached its highest point in 2024 and 2025, and mentioned that the company is presently collaborating with security agencies and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) to ensure that vandals are held accountable as a means of curbing this problem.
The years 2024 and 2025 were extremely challenging for TCN as a responsive public utility due to the vandalism of its transmission line infrastructure by non-state actors. In 2024, a total of 86 towers were vandalized, resulting in 26 towers being completely down and leaving the affected states in total darkness. This act of vandalism covers the Abuja, Bauchi, Enugu, Shiroro, Kano, and Port-Harcourt Regions.
