In the Shanono Local Government Area (LGA) of Kano State, armed individuals carried out an assault on Sunday evening, targeting both Unguwar Tsamiya in Faruruwa village and the Dabawa community. The assault resulted in the kidnapping of a minimum of 25 inhabitants and caused injuries to two other individuals.
This event took place less than one full day following a distinct assault on Yan Kamaye, located in the Tsanyawa LGA, which is also a community situated near the Katsina State boundary.
A conflict and crisis reporter covering instability in Nigeria’s northwest, identified as Bakatsine, provided this information on Monday.
Bakatsine expressed doubt regarding the actual purpose or benefit of the peace agreement established with the armed groups in Katsina State, particularly concerning the local government areas that share a boundary with Kano State.
He conveyed this sentiment: “DISTURBING REPORT: Bandits launched an attack on Unguwar Tsamiya in Faruruwa village and the Dabawa community, both within Shanono LGA of Kano State, last night. At least 25 residents were seized, and two persons sustained injuries. This attack happened under 24 hours after a comparable raid in Yan Kamaye in Tsanyawa LGA, another settlement near the Katsina State border.
“Considering these frequent attacks, a person must question the genuine effectiveness of the peace accord in Katsina State, especially within the LGAs adjacent to Kano State.”
