The Delta North APC Coalition for Equity (DNAPCCE) has raised an alarm that important appointments and decision-making processes in Delta State are still centered within Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s political structure, which is sidelining loyalists who founded the party.
The coalition called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), and all relevant authorities to step in and ensure a fair, sustainable, and equitable integration process for party members in the state.
DNAPCCE Chairman and state APC leader, Alex Ikpeazu, and Secretary, Kaemmer Emina, spoke at a strategic meeting in Abuja with representatives from the nine local government areas of the Delta North senatorial district. They stressed the need to strengthen party unity through genuine integration and the recognition of committed stakeholders who have supported the APC in Delta State for years.
They raised concerns that long-standing APC members feel increasingly marginalized following the defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the subsequent domination by his structure. They argued that this situation undermines party cohesion and goes against the spirit of the Renewed Hope for MORE Agenda.
Ikpeazu described the meeting as “historic and strategic,” pointing out that Governor Oborevwori joined an already established APC structure in Delta State. Therefore, he insisted that political fairness and strategic alignment of both old and new structures are essential as the 2027 elections approach.
Reaffirming that their position is not rebellious but a call for equity, balance, and proper integration, he emphasized that the Governor—who has shown genuine commitment to infrastructure delivery—should use the same passion to integrate old APC members into the state government to complete his MORE Agenda.
They added that grassroots members feel abandoned, claiming that appointments still follow the pattern of the former PDP, which contradicts President Tinubu’s style of total integration.
The coalition demanded that the “40/60 per cent power-sharing formula” (for government and party structure), which has been advocated in states like Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa, be applied in Delta State to strengthen the party at the grassroots and ensure loyalty and a victory in the 2027 elections.
They also stated that as the 2027 elections near, it is imperative for the Governor to dissolve and reconstitute his cabinet to reflect a fair, inclusive, and united APC in Delta State. The coalition maintained that the movement for equity is gaining momentum and must not be ignored.
They dismissed the idea of “old or new APC,” but noted that no tangible steps have been taken to foster unity, leaving long-standing members frustrated. They also condemned party leaders who hesitate to speak out because they are personally benefiting from the government, and they urged the Governor to show genuine commitment to the Delta State APC by ensuring balanced appointments and cabinet restructuring.
