The management of Kaduna Polo Club made a decision to honor the timeless legacies of one of its own and Nigeria’s polo giants, Dawule Baba, from June 11–14, 2026, and the multicultural city of Kaduna is excited for a great polo splash.
The esteemed Murtala Mohammed Square will host the distinguished polo fiesta, which is in its second edition. Participating teams and players are anticipated from all across the nation and beyond.
Our inspections at the Ahmadu Yakubu Club House in Murtala Square show that the Kaduna Polo Club Management Committee has given its full permission to the decision stage of the event, which was made last week following the club’s Polo Management Committee meeting.
In front of the highly anticipated event, which will take center stage soon after the 2026 Ibadan polo tournament and the 2026 Access Bank UNICEF Charity Shield international in May and early June, respectively, all of the tournament committees have already been activated.
The Dawule Baba has already been institutionalized as one of the yearly polo tournaments in Kaduna, according to Brigadier General Kapeh Kazir (Rtd.), First Vice President of the Kaduna Polo Club, who had previously confirmed the club’s decision to celebrate the legacies of the Dawule Baba, affectionately known as “The Teacher.”
The Dauwle Baba memorial, which has been played internationally with Argentina since last year at the La Dolfina Polo Ranch, will travel to South Africa before the Kaduna polo climax. From April 29 to May 3, 2026, a Nigerian team will play their Ghanaian counterparts.
Dawule’s children, Abba Dawule and his older brother, Baba Dawule (Jnr.), along with Lado Aliyu and Ahmed Sodangi, will play teams made up of Ghanaian and South African players at Plettenberg Bay, South Africa, as part of a promotion and event organized by Harold Awuah-Darku, a close friend of Dawule and a polo patron from Ghana, to honor the “Great Teacher” and celebrate his impactful glacises across the African continent.
In recognition of his enormous efforts, Kaduna Polo Club renamed its main ground “Dawule Baba Polo Ground” for the Dawule Baba Memorial Polo Tournament, which made its debut last year and saw the DeeBee Polo team win the largest prize, the Dawule Baba Cup.
The SKK squad (El-Amin Cup) and the Askira team (Annadariya Cup) are two other notable winners of the first edition. Numerous private and corporate groups, such as Clearwater Polo Farm, honored the “Great Teacher” with their 2025 Access Bank Cup triumph, emphasizing his guidance and impact on the sport.
Dawule Baba, the late “Great TEACHER,” is honored with this victory. Shortly after raising the cup at the presentation ceremony last Sunday in Kaduna, General Kapeh Kazir, Chairman of Clearwater Polo, said, “He inspired the spirit of the team beyond our vision and mission.”
