The Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected reports alleging that it planned to attack former Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle during his visit to the state.
In a statement released on Thursday, signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Halliru Andi, the PDP labeled the allegation as a deliberate lie intended to misinform the public and generate unnecessary tension. The statement asserted, “The PDP has no plan, intention, or reason to attack anybody.”
The party emphasized that under Governor Dauda Lawal, it does not endorse violence or thuggery. It claimed that since taking office, the Governor has “decisively dismantled the political thuggery networks established by the previous APC administration and restored peace, sanity, and order across the state.”
The PDP stated that its primary focus is currently the upcoming PDP National Elective Convention in Ibadan, scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, noting that delegates from Zamfara are already traveling for the event.
The party also called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure peace and abide by the law while welcoming their leader, warning against any action that could disrupt the state’s peace. It warned, “We will not tolerate any act capable of returning the state to the dark days of violence and destruction.” The PDP also cautioned its own members to avoid provocation and obey the law, while also accusing the APC of allegedly mobilizing thugs to attack PDP supporters traveling to Ibadan. The statement concluded by calling on security agencies to “take note of this disturbing plan and act swiftly to prevent any breakdown of law and order,” underscoring that the peace and stability of Zamfara State remain its highest priority.
