Politicians are accused by the Zamfara APC of employing thugs to obstruct Matawalle’s visit.

The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that some politicians have hired gun-wielding thugs with the intent to disrupt the planned visit of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to the state. The party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, made this known to journalists in Gusau on Wednesday, stating that the alleged plot is intended to distract from Matawalle’s homecoming event scheduled for Thursday. Idris confirmed that the APC had completed arrangements to receive the Minister, who is expected to meet with party leaders, members, and supporters in Gusau and his hometown, Maradun. He stated, “Unfortunately, we have received credible information that there is a serious, destructive plan for the minister’s visit.” Idris claimed that thugs were hired to attack the Minister’s convoy and cause chaos along the Gusau–Maradun route, specifically around Tsafe. The APC, however, cautioned its members to be law-abiding and to refrain from carrying any weapons during the visit. Idris stated, “We are therefore warning our members against carrying any type of weapon throughout the minister’s visit and beyond to ensure peace and order.” Finally, he urged security agencies to take note of the alleged plot and ensure that anyone attempting to cause unrest is arrested and handed over to law enforcement authorities.
