cA Community-Based National Social Action Fund Task Force has been approved by President Bola Tinubu with the goal of bolstering grassroots development and expediting socioeconomic projects throughout Nigeria’s 8,804 wards.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday night in Abuja by Mr Ado Bako, Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
According to the statement, the initiative is designed to promote community-driven interventions tailored to the specific needs of local areas. It clarified that in order to carry out priority development initiatives, each ward will collaborate with a validated community-based organization, association, or entity.
It stated that the decision expands upon previous government changes, such as the creation of the Community-Based Procurement Platform in January 2026 and the Social Action Fund, or SAF, in September 2023.
These frameworks are designed to make it easier for community organizations to carry out projects worth up to N50 million.
Bako added that a project implementation schedule that starts on March 1 and ends in December has been approved by the President.
He continued by saying that the ministry’s Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) coordination office will house a special Programme Management Unit to oversee implementation and guarantee compliance.

Furthermore, N17 billion must be released into a special intervention account by the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, or AGF. The money will support the program’s implementation, oversight, accountability, and communication systems.
The Minister of Finance, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, and the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare will chair the task force.
The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, the Director-General of the Federation’s Budget Office, and a National Coordinator designated to supervise activities are additional members.
